Business Recorder reported that Telenor delivered 4G in Gwadar through a satellite link because the city had no long-haul fibre at the time. ProPakistani reported on 26 December 2022 that the Senate committee on information technology was concerned about internet problems in Gwadar despite large investments, and that the PTA had been told to prepare a strategy. Bol News reported that PTA officials said 95 percent of towers in Gwadar district had 4G. The Universal Service Fund planned a 400 km fibre-optic project for Gwadar, expected by the middle of 2023, according to Zameen.com. In October 2022 the IT ministry approved a Rs188.1 million broadband project for more than 15,000 people in 19 villages of Gwadar district. ProPakistani also reported that PTCL laid a new fibre cable in the city.
What We Could Not Confirm
We could not confirm whether the fibre project is complete, which blocks it reaches, or what speeds residents get today. The PTA publishes a quarterly quality of service survey, but we did not find a breakdown for Gwadar. Treat the figures above as history and not as today’s service.
