The Lahore Ring Road Authority raised fines for many traffic offences on the ring road in late October 2026, by up to 900 percent for some of them. If you live in a society that depends on the ring road, these fines are part of your daily commute cost, and motorcyclists in particular need to know the rules.
What Was Announced
Zameen.com, citing a ProPakistani report of 25 October, said the revised schedule follows the Safe Roads, Safe Punjab initiative on the directions of the Punjab Ring Road Authority chairperson. Express Tribune reported on 26 October that the authority raised the fines while city traffic police and Safe City cameras also fine drivers elsewhere in Lahore.
Reported Fines
Reports list these fines on the Lahore Ring Road: driving without a valid licence Rs5,000 (up from Rs500), underage driving Rs10,000, motorcycles on the ring road Rs5,000, pedestrians crossing Rs1,000 (up from Rs200), tinted glass Rs5,000, missing or unauthorised number plates Rs5,000, overloading Rs7,000 (up from Rs2,000), wrong parking Rs2,000 (up from Rs1,000), animals on the road Rs5,000, and smoke-emitting vehicles Rs4,000 for cars and Rs5,000 for commercial vehicles. Over-speeding is reported at Rs5,000 for engines up to 2,000cc and Rs10,000 above. The speed limit is reported as 100 km/h for light vehicles and 80 km/h for heavy vehicles. Outlets differ on some figures, so check the authority’s current schedule.
Enforcement
Express Tribune reported that ring road police penalised 1,783 unlicensed drivers and 2,088 smoke-emitting vehicles in September. TechJuice reported plans for a command and control centre with AI cameras to monitor more than 150,000 vehicles a day.
What It Means If You Live Near the Ring Road
If you commute by motorcycle, you cannot use the ring road, so ask which other roads connect the society to your workplace. Ask which interchange serves the society and how far it is from the gate. Our guide to the Lahore Ring Road Southern Loop explains which sections are built and which are not, and sources differ on that. Do not assume that a plot beside a road gives you a faster commute.
